About Me
- Mark Schwartz
- In the early 1980's i had been offered a job with Roger Vivier as an assistant designer in shoes. I worked with Vivier for almost 5 years where I learned the craft of shoe design.One day while in my office in New York city I had a surprise visit from a Mr.Andy Warhol. Warhol who had been friends with Vivier had come by to visit me and talk about shoes.Warhol himself had started out his career as a illustrator of shoes in New York in the 1950's. At that time I had just begun playing with the idea of painting and drawing the shoe in an artistic manner, I had shown some of my paintings to Warhol and he was the one after a few more meetings that sat me down and pointed my work in the direction that you see on my site today. Warhol played a very large part in teaching me the direction and the attitude that I needed to express myself. It was not until the mid 1990's when I opened my first Mark Schwartz shoe boutique in New York City that my paintings really began to sell. We had an empty wall that needed to be filled and by a suggestion from a friend , hung some of my framed paintings on that empty wall. I sold as many paintings at one point as i did shoes!
